Lemmy (Wikipedia) and Mastodon (Wikipedia) both use the ActivityPub (Wikipedia) protocol so it made sense to have a single BOF for both.
Lemmy is a distributed news aggregation and discussion forum system that does most things that Reddit does.
Mastodon is a distributed social-networking and microblogging platform that does what Twitter does.
This BOF aims to be useful to people without a device. But to take full advantage it's recommended that everyone have at least one device (phone, tablet, or laptop) that they can use for accessing Lemmy and/or Mastodon. If you don't have a Lemmy/Mastodon account we can help you get one. Wifi Internet access will be available.
Getting an account before the BOF starts is recommended as some servers take a while to create a new account. Lemmy and Mastodon are free services not "free because you are the product that is sold" services so the people and organisations hosting them have incentives to check accounts before permitting them access.
This BOF is aimed at users of the software not sysadmins. If people who have experience of Lemmy/Mastodon sysadmin want to speak then that would be great but end user access is the main focus.
